MIDKENT COLLEGE PHASE 1, MAIDSTONE

markhantonStudio were appointed to provide RIBA work stages A-L (inception to completion), for proposed enhancements to existing college campus grounds.

The proposals sought to radically revamp the existing car parks, service yards, and general landscaped areas that lacked cohesion, hierarchy and legibility due to a piecemeal growth over the past number of decades.
The concept was derived from the sites historic use as cherry orchards and its mature parkland setting, in order to provide a continuous underlying theme with the aim of creating a dynamic and vibrant ‘sense of place’ and a strong branded identity.
A simple pallet of robust materials influenced by the architectural and parkland vocabulary provides a uniform appearance, and combined with a layout based on the geometry of the building, creates more legible and functional spaces.

The scheme was completed in 2013.
